Kinellar Church
I had another picture planned for today, but after visiting my sister, I went with my folks to the graveyard at Kinellar to replace the flowers at my Granny's grave.
The church within the grounds is derelict but has been purchased with the hope of converting it into a 5 bedroomed house. After a bit of research online, mostly to see if I could view pictures of how it looked when it was in use, I discovered that there are delays in planning permission. This is mainly due to two reasons, disputes over parts of the grounds and the Pictish stone which is displayed internally.
During this reasearch, I was shocked to read that someone openly admitted to entering this private property unlawfully to photograph the Pictish stone, and was disappointed to read that he then called the church "disgusting".
I find old and derelict buildings fascinating and would never refer to them in this way. I understand that the building has become run down and now houses many birds and possibly bats, but I remember being in the church for a christening 20(ish) years ago and it still retains the simple country kirk charm it had back then.
