flabbergasted

When I saw these men cutting down what I thought was one of our more beautiful trees on our street, I was dumbfounded. Why on earth cut such a majestic beauty down?

Then a few hours later I found the reason. This tree was seriously unhealthy. One day, maybe very soon, it was likely going to come down on somone - a car, a child, a family walking by, etc.

Still, a very sad sight.
