Fallen Giant
This mature Silver Fir Tree (Abies alba) stood proudly beside the A93 North Deeside Road just west of Drumoak, Aberdeenshire, until it was blown down in a gale at the start of December.
The exposed 'root plate' reveals what shallow roots this magnificent tree had compared to its stature above ground level.
