Old-fashioned apples

I love apples and I believe that there are hundreds of different varieties. But supermarkets now only stock a handful of these, which are mostly modern varieties bred for looks and shelf life rather than taste. They are OK but not very distinctive.

There are a few places where you can still get the old seasonal varieties. These were outside a cheese shop in St Andrews and I bought a bag of them. I'm looking forward to eating them with a lump of cheese.
