The Wiener Riesenrad

The Wiener Riesenrad
Back on the coach this morning and we headed for Austria, to our hotel about five miles outside Vienna, and to the worst hotel on our trip, with the slowest lifts in Europe I think! Especially when hundreds of teenagers arrive and start playing with the lifts...
We had an evening trip into Vienna up to one of the hills to get a view of Vienna at night. We were then taken down to an amusement park and seen The Wiener Riesenrad (German for "Viennese giant wheel"). It was constructed in 1897 and originally had 30 gondolas, but was severely damaged in World War II and when subsequently rebuilt only 15 gondolas were replaced. This is the wheel that featured in the movie "The Third Man".
