First sights of Venice
Thursday 1st day in Venice.
I woke up in bed with my notebook in my hand and wondered where I was. There was quite a noice from the people in the room above tramping on the ceiling while outside there was a whoosh from a water taxi. Thats when I remembered that we had spent a day in Venice and that I was too tired to go downstairs into the wifi zone to blip the day of travelling from home to Venice and make the decision on which photo to chose from the day. I could see from my I pad that it was quite late so maybe I could write a line or two and back lip the photo tomorrow. Yes that was the decision of a very tired person.
I have plenty of photos to choose from but this one of the view from the plane as we circle over Venice gives you an idea of how small the place really is. Basically Venice is a small group of islands joined by a causeway with a road and train line. On the left of this is a waterway course for vaporettos and speed taxis.
The choice between taking the vaporetto, or boat bus to Venice and the taxi speed boat was a no brainer. Bus 15€, taxi 110€. The taxis seemed very busy but the only difference I could see was speed on which they seemed to pride themselves. On the way in we passed the island of Murano where glass making is confined, and the cemetery.
Our hotel room is in a palazzo hidden away behind thick doors. Venice is not busy and the weather is a nice temperature. Our rooms are enormous and we practically have a living room and a view of a church and on the canal. All very exciting. After consultation with the hotel we locate some good authentic eateries for later. We don't want to fall in to the tourist trap. The menu is not in English so that would be a very good start if only we could understand all of it. We had half a portion of pasta in a lamb type sauce and I had a seppie ( squid ) stew with polenta and Alan had 2 types of fish.
After tying down with my note pub I must have fallen asleep. I know there was someone else beside me, out for the count.
