The Bounty of Summer
In the drizzle of
a warm, summer rain, one bird
claims the sunflowers.

I've been watering at a friend's house this summer. Eve has had major surgery twice this year and has had to leave the care of her home to her friends and family. Her much-loved garden and yard are now neglected and abandoned. The sunflowers, a favourite of hers, reseeded themselves and have somehow survived the heat of summer. This female western tanager was enjoying the seeds this morning, in spite of the rain.
