Fox-and-cubs

I've always admired Fox-and-cubs or Orange Hawkweed, Pilosella aurantiaca, in gardens. Today I found it apparently naturalised in a field adjacent to the nature reserve. This is a field that has been set-aside for at least ten years and now has a central block sown with maize as cover and feed for partridges and pheasants. The rest of the field is just cut once a year and has already built up an impressive wild flower population including a number of orchid species that have spread from the reserve. I guess the Fox-and-cubs has come from the other direction, from one of the gardens in the valley, and found the field equally hospitable.
