Unexpected

We had such a fantastic day. Most of what we did hadn't been planned. You see, at 8:30 AM, I received a message from a client to whom I needed to deliver a print order. I had been waiting to see when she would be available, and learned that she would be home all day today. As it turns out, she doesn't live far from our zoo or aquarium. So, I decided that the house cleaning I had planned would need to be done quickly, I packed a lunch, even baked a batch of the "healthy" cookies Larkyn likes, and got us out of the house by 11:00.

After delivering the order, we went to the zoo - Larkyn's choice today. She told me she wanted to see the seals, the crocodiles, and the giraffes. We saw all of them and many more. I guess no one thinks to go to the zoo in December, as we practically had the place to ourselves, and I noticed that the animals took notice of us as we approched their enclosures. Usually there's such a steady stream of people, they seem numb to it. The peacocks that roam the zoo freely seemed particularly hungry today (surely due to the lack of people), so Larkyn was able to feed them up close and personal. They were pretty much following us around. Beautiful birds.

There was also a large patch of beautiful yellow, orange and red leaves in the middle of the grass. I say a patch, because most of the grass was covered with brown cottonwood leaves. So, this little patch was quite a treat for us. We threw leaves on each other and Larkyn found some sticks to wave around. A wonderful finish to our lovely time there.

She had walked the entire way and was tired by the time we got home. She hasn't been sleeping at nap time much these days, but this afternoon, she slept for three hours!
