Traders from Yemen
What a busy day!
Started off with a trip to the Gold Souk to collect something for G. She has had all her silver jewellery polished, and I cannot believe how good it now looks! That done, I actually managed a bit of Christmas shopping walking back to the car. Got home for lunch and to catch up on Blip journals. Had a visit from one of our Pathfinders (Sam) which was very nice! Then had a phone call to say our dinner appointment needed to be postponed on account of one of the guests not being well.
As we had a free evening, we headed out to Global Village - an annual event on the Dubai Calendar. Boy is it a feast for the eyes. Click here to see what I mean. We broggled around for nearly three hours visiting very specific countries (and actually buying things too!) and left very happy we made the effort.
My blip is of vendors of a spice stall in Yemen. This is one of the pavilions we always visit. It has spices, honey (see Jellyfox's blip), and (silver) jewellery. Nearly all the vendors wear a "khanjar" (dagger). Don't think they ever use them now - well, not in Dubai anyway - but they are an integral part of the Yemeni national dress and it looks very interesting!
We will be visiting again in the New Year...
