How to build a bird feeder.

I seen this and thought i could build one pretty simply.
I was right. it was really easy and can be built in an hour.

material:
125mm x 25mm off saw white pine x 300mm long
19mm dowelling. 1@ 200mm, 2@ 125mm long
pva glue

tools:
square
tenon saw
pencil
tape
19mm drill bit
16mmdrill bit
battery/electric drill

Method
measure 75mm up from bottom of base plate and draw a line across the base plate using your square.
come in 30mm from each side and transect your line with a mark. this is where you will drill two 19mm holes for the two shorter pegs. drill the holes with the 19mm drill. go right through the back plate.

cut two short pegs at 125mm and using pva glue fix the two pegs in the holes you have just made.

place a jam jar against the two upright pegs with the base of the jar on the flat of the back plate. posistion your square against the side of the jar and mark the outside dimension of the jar onto the backplate.
transect this line at its centre point and then move the whole centre point up 9mm (your original line being the side of the peg, moving the 9mm upwards will give you the centre of the last peg). drill this with your 16mm drill, right through the timber back plate.
your next job is to chamfer the last peg from 19mm diameter to a 16mm to 19mm cicular wedge. this will allow the single peg to be removable but still tight enough to hold the jar in securely. You can of course just drill a 19 mm hole and glue the last peg in but i think a removable peg will allow easier placement and removing of the jars. make sure the pegs slots in tightly and has NO movement. one sharp tap with a mallet should keep it in place!
Finally sand and paint to your required taste.

p.s i wont be feeding the birds jam.
this jar was just used for sizing.
I suggest you fill the jar with bird seed and excess fat/lard from the kitchen.
Happy building guys.
