The Life Of Ponty Cyclops

Jenny Wren - Peek A Boo!

I guess you, my lovely subscribers, are going to have to get used to this now!

No more iPhone work blips, and probably a heck of a lot more back garden bird blips!

Considering I have done very little today, the day has whizzed by!

I threw myself into this unemployed lark fully this morning. It was 10am before I got out of my dressing gown and into the shower!

There was sudden break in the gloomy skies, so I thought I would take advantage of it, and sit out in the garden shed/hide for an hour.

Learning from my mistake of the 25th Of November I stayed put this time! And boy am I glad I did!

Having got just a nice couple of shots of a Coal Tit and our resident male Greater Spotted Woodpecker, I suddenly clocked movement on the palm tree. A beautiful Wren was searching the nooks and crannies for bugs. She was going around the trunk, so all I needed to do was be very quiet and patient, and I knew I would get a shot like this! I almost chose this one, but this one has far more character.

Satisfied that I had gotten the blip shot I wanted, I had a quick five minutes trying to capture the Greenfinches squabbling over the available ports on the feeder by the fence.

Then it happened ....

Everything scattered ...

There ... coming straight at me like a feathered bullet .. it's yellow eyes zeroing in on the feeder right by me, was a sparrowhawk. I genuinely had to take evasive action, and duck! I honestly thought it was going to fly straight into the shed with me! It veered away at the last possible second, easily within six feet of me!

I must admit I now know how a Blue Tit or some other bird must feel now ... well, how it must feel for the last few seconds of life!

Quite incredible.
